Peter is a senior teacher in the Iyengar tradition
The General workshops are for students of yoga with some experience (at least 12 months) who are ready and wanting to invest more seriously in their yoga and develop their fundamental understanding. It is not for beginners or new students to yoga who would be better off preparing with their existing teacher.
The workshops explore fundamental and essential principles of yoga practice in the context of their practical application. The aim is to provide students with an intelligent and safe reference for their ongoing yoga development along with some sense of where that development might go and how it might proceed.
Peter is a very experienced and highly skilled teacher of yoga in the Iyengar tradition. The opportunity to receive this guidance from him is a valuable opportunity for those seeking to establish themselves in the practice of yoga.
Students who are more experienced and have prior consistent attendance may apply for the Transitional Intensives.

Peter Thomson is conducting an additional transitional intensive for experienced students wanting to join the Level 3 intensives.
Peter has become aware of a number of students from the General Level Yoga Workshops who are perhaps ready for deeper work but who might need some sort of bridge so that the transition to L3 could be more straightforward and easier.

Peter Thomson is conducting 3 intensives for teachers and experienced students at Oasis in 2026.
These intensives are aimed specifically at the needs of teachers, teachers-in-training and experienced to advanced students. They are not suitable for new or recent students to yoga or to the Iyengar method. The general workshops are there for that purpose. As a guide all students are expected to be engaged in their own practice and should be accomplished in sirsasana and sarvangasana.
Peter's particular approach is process or practice-based rather than prescriptive or conceptual and is built off the establishment of clear perceptual foundations that support our on-going yoga development. It demands therefore (and relies on) continuity of attendance and process. All participants in these intensives are therefore required to attend all 3 sessions for the year unless otherwise expressly negotiated with Peter.

Peter has been practicing yoga since 1979 and a student of the Iyengar family since 1981. He has traveled to Pune to study at the Iyengar Institute well over 30 times and has been a participant in most special intensives and courses at the Institute over the years, including (notably) the backbend intensive with Mr. Iyengar in 1991.
Peter is one of Australia's most senior and most experienced teachers and practitioners and has been heavily involved in the development of Iyengar yoga both in Australasian and more recently in the South-East Asian region. This is so in terms of basic teaching but also in terms of teacher training and certification processes.
Peter’s particular interest in the practice and teaching of yoga is the depth of perception, inquiry and understanding that sustained practice can develop and in making that understanding directly accessible to students so they can claim it as their own in their practice and in their lives.
